Assistant Controller
Assistant Controller
The primary function of the Assistant Controller is to assist in managing the Corporate G/L Accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate reporting of the Company’s results in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, tax regulations and the Company’s internal reporting needs, analyzing performance compared to budgets, forecasts and prior periods. The Assistant Controller reports to the VP of Finance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the activities of the G/L accounting team for the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements / month end close, annual audits, and annual budgets using generally accepted accounting practices and internal reporting needs.
- Safeguard the Company’s assets by ensuring the proper maintenance of the general ledger and the timely preparation of monthly account reconciliations.
- Support the development of a highly disciplined and capable accounting department through development of existing and/or new personnel. Foster a climate of continuous improvement and accountability for results through skills enhancement, coaching, performance measurement and feedback.
- Support the Corporate Controller in working with outside auditors to complete the Company’s financial audit as well as insurance and 401k plan audits. Be the main liaison between the Company and auditors regarding field work and requested data.
- Interface with tax specialists to complete the Company tax returns. Ensure corporate income tax compliance and the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income, state income, and state and local sales and use tax returns and property tax renditions.
- Make recommendations as needed for the establishment and maintenance of internal controls.
- Research and opine regarding accounting issues to ensure the Company’s compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process as well as subsequent analysis of deviations from planned spending.
- Help manage the general ledger accounting integration of acquired businesses.
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects and other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance with heavy concentration in accounting
- CPA preferred; solid knowledge of GAAP is required.
- Seven plus years of accounting experience.
- Three years of accounting management experience.
- Expert experience using Microsoft Office Suite of products including Word and Excel.
- Experience with Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook a plus.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Great Plains/Dynamics GP experience a plus.
- Experience in a geographically dispersed, multi-location service organization with a financial shared services financial environment.
- Experience working in a high volume transaction business a plus.
