Detector Engineer
The successful candidate will collaborate with various engineering teams and personnel to ensure the delivery of high-quality analyses and calculations. Responsibilities include developing detailed documentation for calculations, test results, and analyses. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a keen attention to detail. They must also demonstrate accountability in completing assignments, excellent planning and organizational skills, sound judgment, and effective decision-making capabilities.
Essential Duties
- Material and Specification Development: Prepare and validate specifications for materials, components, manufacturing procedures, and the operation of test equipment.
- Technical Reporting: Develop detailed technical and test reports to support engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Experimentation and Analysis: Design and conduct experiments to support product development and improvement initiatives.
- Design Support: Collaborate with Engineering Associates on design analyses and specification reviews.
- Procurement Assistance: Partner with the Procurement team to source materials and address technical inquiries.
- Manufacturing Support: Review in-process manufacturing data, address work instruction issues, and ensure production quality.
- Quality Assurance: Work with the Quality team to identify critical characteristics, resolve technical questions, and address non-conformances.
- Sales and Customer Support: Assist the Sales team with technical proposals and respond to customer inquiries. Provide ongoing customer support by troubleshooting operational issues, reviewing projects, and evaluating returned products.
- Detector Testing: Conduct periodic testing of detectors at a research reactor.
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel (approximately 5%) may be required.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Industry Interest: A strong passion for the nuclear industry and its advancements.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Problem-Solving Expertise: Demonstrated creativity and aptitude in solving complex technical challenges.
- Relevant Experience: Practical experience in project or design engineering, particularly in areas such as neutron detection, neutron-material interactions, and radioactive decay.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with nuclear detector equipment, including spectroscopy; experience with MCNP software is a plus.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel).
- Security Clearance Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen. This position requires a federal background investigation and security clearance.
