Director of Mergers and Acquisitions
SUMMARY
We are partnering with a Private Equity backed, field & industrial services company looking to add a Director of M&A to drive aggressive growth through strategic acquisitions. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role will own the end-to-end M&A process — from sourcing to closing — ensuring deals are executed smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a scrappy, results-driven professional with a banking background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to roll up their sleeves and push deals across the finish line.
Geography
Preference for candidates based in Houston, TX (SW Houston office). Open to candidates in the Southeast or South-Central U.S. with flexibility for travel.
Primary Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing:
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of acquisition targets, with a focus on beachhead and tuck-in acquisitions.
- Establish and nurture relationships with brokers, business owners, and buy-side partners to ensure a consistent flow of high-quality opportunities.
- Partner with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to seamlessly transition leads from initial outreach to deal execution.
Deal Execution:
- Take ownership of the end-to-end deal process, coordinating all due diligence workstreams, including financial, legal, operational, tax, and environmental reviews.
- Drive urgency and alignment across stakeholders to ensure deals close on schedule, targeting one acquisition per quarter.
- Develop detailed financial models, including 3-year projections, valuation analyses, and synergy assessments.
- Lead the preparation of approval materials, including memos and presentations for senior leadership and the Board.
Integration & Growth:
- Partner with senior management to develop and execute post-acquisition integration plans.
- Oversee the 30/60/90-day integration process, ensuring Year 1 financial targets and identified synergies are achieved.
- Monitor, analyze, and refine integration strategies to enhance the efficiency of future acquisitions.
Required Education & Specific Competencies
- Experience: 7-10 years of M&A experience in investment banking, corporate development, or private equity.
- Proven Success: Demonstrated track record of executing multiple small to mid-sized acquisitions, especially founder-operated businesses.
- Lifecycle Expertise: Ability to independently manage the full M&A lifecycle, from deal sourcing through to closing.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: Proactive, resourceful, and relentless in driving deals forward with a “scrappy and hungry” mindset.
- Technical Skills: Strong quantitative acumen with expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and synergy analysis.
- Communication: Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership, equity partners, and sellers.
- Organizational Strength: Highly organized and capable of managing multiple diligence workstreams simultaneously.
- Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work seamlessly with buy-side brokers and internal deal teams.
