The Global Category Manger for Direct Supply will manage the strategic supply chain for a specific individual or group of categories / commodities. This role is responsible for the selection, management, and development of all suppliers for a category or categories. This role will lead the effort to manage quality, delivery, total cost, and cash related to materials used in production and/or for service and aftermarket shipment for all suppliers and parts within a category or categories. This role will own the individual strategies for their respective material category/commodity that includes external market intelligence, organization annual operating plan objectives, internal and external customer expectations and supplier performance management.

Essential Functions:
- Create, present, and execute strategies for each of the assigned categories that includes both current and future Company products and that considers both internal business goals and objectives as well as external market factors.
- Partner with supply chain engineering to successfully develop the strategy and launch plan for new products.
- Lead the effort to manage and develop existing suppliers. Identify, qualify and on-board new suppliers. Rationalize suppliers as required by supplier performance, market conditions and business objectives
- Manage, measure, and improve the supply chain performance metrics for all suppliers within assigned category / categories
- Own the development, negotiation, and management of supplier legal elements including non-disclosure, contracts/long term agreements, stocking agreements, bailment agreements for assets and other pertinent legal documents. Ensure that contract negotiation outcomes achieve best cost value, product availability and flexibility, asset management, liability & intellectual property protection, payment and other key terms.
- Learn and utilize supply analytics systems that provides insights into the day to day running of the business as well as intelligence & statistics for long term strategy.
- Establish supply chain contingency and mitigation plans for sole source and/or critical items to prevent supply chain interruptions for assigned category/categories
- Performs additional duties as assigned by management or required by the position.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, supply chain, engineering, or a related discipline and 3- 5 years’ experience in supply chain management including strategic and tactical supply. Prefer either CPSM or CSCP accreditation.
- Strong negotiation experience and skills
- Experienced in developing, implementing, and leading a category strategy
- Experience within a lean manufacturing environment is preferred
- Knowledge of business principles involved in category management, supplier quality, transportation, and supply analytics
- Knowledge of principles and methods of transportation for the movement of components by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits for both domestic and international purchases
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Must have working knowledge and experience with MRP/ERP business software including supplier portals and control towers.
