About the Role
Our client, a private equity-backed renewable energy and semiconductor manufacturer, is seeking an Import/Export Logistics Supervisor to oversee inbound international shipments, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance. This role will be responsible for ensuring seamless ocean freight logistics, improving visibility of shipments, and working closely with suppliers and third-party providers.
The ideal candidate has experience managing NVOCC and ocean freight operations, enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and is eager to implement process improvements while being hands-on with the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee international inbound logistics, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement of raw materials into the U.S.
- Manage and develop relationships with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, drayage providers, and customs brokers.
- Implement and enhance import/export processes, ensuring compliance with HTS classifications and international trade regulations.
- Lead a growing team of five logistics professionals, including drayage coordinators, intermodal planners, and door-to-door logistics experts.
- Support the transition to a new Transportation Management System (TMS), moving away from Excel-based tracking.
- Establish KPIs, monitor freight costs, and drive operational efficiencies.
- Develop and train logistics staff, ensuring knowledge transfer from the department head.
- Act as a key point of contact for Asia-to-U.S. import operations, maintaining shipment visibility and communication post-departure.
- Identify process gaps and implement strategic continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Bring
- 4-5 years of experience in import/export ocean logistics, preferably in freight forwarding, NVOCC, or manufacturing.
- 1-2 years of leadership experience, managing small teams.
- Deep knowledge of ocean freight, intermodal logistics, drayage coordination, and customs clearance.
- Hands-on leadership approach—comfortable working alongside your team, not just overseeing strategy.
- Strong experience negotiating with carriers, managing pricing, and ensuring service level agreements are met.
- Proficiency in Excel and logistics software; TMS implementation experience is a plus.
- Ability to push back on carriers and vendors to protect the company’s best interests.
