Mechanical Piping Designer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models and detailed 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD for customer approval and shop fabrication.
- Design mechanical layouts for modular process piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry and customer specifications.
- Maintain strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of piping fittings and components in the design process.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to determine conduit/wireway layouts and ensure accessibility for electrical panels.
- Review project specifications, design instructions, layout plans, flow diagrams, and P&IDs to define the scope of work.
- Ensure adherence to design principles, drafting standards, and fabrication processes.
- Communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
- Conduct design review meetings to evaluate construction feasibility, serviceability, and clash detection.
- Support estimators by providing preliminary piping and structural layouts.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Perform self-checks on designs to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes.
Tools & Technology:
- Proficient use of desktop computers, Microsoft Office (including Dynamics AX), and company operations software.
- Experience using scanners, copiers, fax machines, and telecommunication tools.
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in 3D CAD design, a Bachelor’s in Engineering, or a minimum of three years of relevant industry experience.
- Prior experience in piping design is required.
- Knowledge of ASME BPE and Navisworks is a plus.
- Proficiency in 3D parametric modeling software, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel is an advantage.
Communication & Analytical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including design specifications, blueprints, customer requirements, and engineering data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
- Ability to project a professional image in interactions with customers and visitors.
Mathematical Skills:
- Competence in calculating proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences, and volumes.
