Plant Manager
Job Summary
We are looking for the right people who want to innovate, achieve, grow, and lead. We are seeking a highly skilled and proven experienced Manufacturing Plant Manager/Foreman who can improve daily operations of a steel manufacturing facility producing one-off heavy equipment for the reusable water industry. The Company is expanding its fabrication capacity and is looking for the right person to lead this initiative for a smooth transition and long-term quality manufacturing.
Our Manufacturing Plant Manager is responsible for all activities within the plant to meet planned objectives, including driving continuous improvement in all manufacturing and inventory control processes with a focus on the best customer experience in the industry, achieving quality and output goals, and maintaining our zero-injury work culture. Clear and transparent communication with Management will be essential to the success of this position.
Essential Job Functions
Throughout the day, the Plant Manager will divide his/her time between their office and the production floor. The Plant Manager is expected to lead from the front by understanding and participating as needed in the execution of all job functions in the shop. While in the office, the Plant Manager reviews employee quota data; verifies time sheets and individual performance; and communicates with the engineering team, project managers, and corporate management to discuss questions relating to fabrication drawings, changes to production status, and improvement suggestions.
- Between administrative duties, the Plant Manager supervises employee workstations, investigates potential equipment defects, and makes sure that all employees follow the plant’s operational and safety procedures.
- He/she ensures that each workstation, all tools, and manufacturing equipment are properly maintained, calibrated per schedule, and kept clean and professional looking at all times.
- The Plant Manager oversees with Management the Plant expansion, providing experienced input into best practices, scheduled workflow processes, shop floor layout, etc.
- Owns and delivers the operational budget for manufacturing/assembly, including safety, productivity, financial planning, labor planning, and operational goals.
- With input from the rest of the management team, he/she is responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months out and future annual forecasting), including labor planning, rate forecasting, and capital investment planning.
- Establishes shift production schedules and ensures these are met.
- Ensures effective resource utilization.
- Drives creation of quality initiatives, process change initiatives, and other Lean and JIT initiatives to enable the manufacturing team to meet and exceed the business plan.
- Sets and clarifies requirements and expectations for Manufacturing.
- Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds employees accountable for their performance.
- Maintains quality compliance for products and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates planning with Project Management Team and Management.
- Provides training and development for personnel, and develops a strong, dedicated team environment to support operations and employee work satisfaction.
- Identifies major cost drivers within the operation and works to minimize them in measurable ways.
- Works closely with support staff (PM, Materials, HR, Finance, Facilities, Safety, IT) and other leaders to build and secure support and resources for customer projects as well as sales and research and development initiatives.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- An associate’s degree or completed bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Steel manufacturing experience for unique equipment production (not assembly line).
- Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills.
- 7+ years direct management experience with performance metrics, process improvements, and Lean techniques.
- 7+ years experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions, and terminations.
- 4+ years of water jet cutter, laser cutter, break press, and stainless steel welding experience.
- 4+ years of experience with rotating equipment manufacturing.
- Experience with sandblasting or glass bead blasting and non-pressure vessel fabrication is a plus.
- The shop environment is fast-paced, action-oriented, and high-energy. The role requires a person who can remain calm under stress and guide his team to do the same.
- The position is responsible for the overall efficiency, safety, and profitable operation of the facility.
- Requires coordination of all production floor activities, including scheduling needs, toolroom, and equipment maintenance.
- Candidate must have excellent leadership skills, the ability to build an effective team, as well as high-level organizational and time management skills to balance time and priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:

- Bilingual (English & Spanish).
- Degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field.
