Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and skilled Journeyman Machinist to join our team. This role involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting various machinery and equipment to produce high-quality components and perform industrial maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tool and die making, the ability to reverse engineer parts, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards.
Traditional Journeyman Machinist
As a Traditional Journeyman Machinist, you will take on responsibilities beyond standard machinist work, adapting to various tasks across the facility. This role requires versatility, technical expertise, and a strong work ethic to support machining, fabrication, maintenance, and leadership duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Machining & Fabrication
- Operate manual machinery, including lathes, mills, and surface grinders, to fabricate, repair, and reverse-engineer industrial components.
- Work on molds for injection molding machines and parts for can manufacturing equipment.
- Ensure all fabricated components meet precise specifications and quality standards.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
- Perform maintenance tasks beyond machining, including plumbing, electrical repairs, and general facility upkeep.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems, from fixing plumbing issues to handling electrical wiring and system diagnostics.
Machine Building & Repair
- Assemble, modify, and repair industrial machinery and equipment.
- Reverse-engineer existing components to create accurate replicas or improved versions.
Leadership & Training
- Supervise and guide a small team, ensuring smooth operations and skill development.
- Train under the Machine Shop Foreman to learn company-specific processes, documentation, and maintenance tracking.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Conduct precision checks on fabricated parts to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Maintain thorough documentation of production, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company protocols to maintain a secure working environment.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Experience: 5+ years in a traditional machine shop or industrial setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating manual lathes, mills, and grinders.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Familiarity with industrial safety standards and preventive maintenance programs.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks safely.
Preferred:
- Completion of a formal machinist apprenticeship or equivalent training.
- Experience in basic drafting and engineering drawing interpretation.
- Forklift and crane operation experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
