Engineering Manager



Responsible for leading the engineering department in developing and improving manufacturing processes, equipment and layouts, performing complex analytical work, developing strategic plans, improving efficiency and quality and reducing scrap, lead time and costs. Provide team leadership and supervision for departmental employees in performing duties, as needed.


Essential Functions

  • Lead the department’s support of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Develop, manage, and mentor the department’s staff.

  • Provide support to production operations through the effective deployment of engineering resources to lower scrap rates, improve quality, lower costs and increase productivity.

  • Ensure that the engineering staff is working directly with the cell managers and production managers to identify areas within the manufacturing process that can be improved in order to make the plant more competitive.

  • Lead the Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, processes and equipment.

  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs. Estimate production times.

  • Confer with vendors to determine detailed product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.

  • Research, recommend, prepare and execute capital expense request for equipment projects.

  • Provide guidance to subordinate engineers and technicians in various projects and responsibilities

  • Work closely with production management, quality, purchasing, safety and environmental to develop and implement solutions consistent with the goals of the company.

  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to achieve corporate and departmental objectives.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Four or more years of supervisory or lead experience within an engineering department.

  • Must have a document record of leadership experience in project management.

  • Must have a successful record of leadership success in helping to support and drive the implementation of process improvement using lean manufacturing principles.

  • Successful experience with time studies, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances, and Statistical Process Control.

  • Experienced in bill of materials and routing construction, as well as, product costing and analysis.

  • Must have a verifiable history of providing positive leadership, cohesive team building and a record of high achievement.

  • Metals manufacturing experience helpful.
