Job Description

General Manager

 

I am working with a pet supply manufacturing group that is a leading provider of professional shampoo, conditioner, and cologne products targeting the pet groomer market. The company manufactures and distributes proprietary branded products primarily through wholesale and retail distributors, an e-commerce site, catalog sales, and conventions. The company is headquartered in Corona, CA and currently has ~15 employees located in one facility. The company is poised for substantial growth.

The general manager will have full P&L responsibility, and will have oversight of all product, operational, and sales functions, including product manufacturing, product sourcing, warehouse operations, customer service / sales, and administrative matters. The general manager will have 4-6 direct reports.

The key objectives for the general manager will be to grow top and bottom line performance by overseeing manufacturing optimization, new product development, a continued emphasis on sales/customer relationships, and sourcing and distribution. Additionally, the general manager will be responsible for managing a new shampoo and conditioner private label manufacturing program for the parent company.

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Creating the overall strategic plan for the business in conjunction with management, and ensuring buy-in from all stakeholders
  • Managing production scheduling, manufacturing, throughput, fulfillment, and facilities management for shampoo manufacturing operations
  • Managing and implementing private label manufacturing program for parent company
  • Developing programs to grow sales through sales and marketing initiatives and expanding wallet share with existing customers
  • Attracting, developing, and leading a high performing team
  • Motivating management team and line-employees through the development of performance targets and incentive plans
  • Developing a financial budget and operational plan, and taking accountability for meeting goals
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting, safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Provide regular updates to owners regarding business performance and activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates should have the following:

 

  • Experience running a $5-10 million product distribution business/division with full P&L responsibility
  • Strong commercial skills, including experience growing a finished-goods product manufacturer with wholesale distributor background as a plus
  • Demonstrated ability in attracting, developing, and retaining a high-performing team at all levels of organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in accounting concepts applicable to manufacturing and product distribution businesses
  • Experience in an e-commerce environment is preferred
  • Experience in the pet supplies industry or other similar professional products category is a plus 

EDUCATION: An undergraduate technical degree is required. An MBA would significantly enhance the candidate’s qualifications.
