Key Account Manager-Automotive

General Description: The Key Account Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to maintain current business while soliciting new business. This position must support and lead all activities related to satisfying our customer’s requirements. Communications, both internal and external, must be accurate and concise, avoiding any misinterpretation. Coordinates with: Engineering (Application, Product, Process, Design and technicians), APQP, CI, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Finance, HR and Materials

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial direction for all existing and future hose programs
  • Establish and manage prototype sales contracts for relevant programs
  • Manage all commercial proposals and quotations to key account customers
  • Manage VA/VE proposals to key account customers
  • Achieve program and departmental budget targets
  • Active participant within the APQP process (i.e. attend meetings, close out action items in a timely manner)
  • Ability to function effectively in an automotive industry-paced, lean, entrepreneurial team
  • Develop and maintain annual budget forecasting for key account customers
  • Develop relationship with customer base at multiple levels and identify new business opportunities
  • Facilitate and attend customer meetings, trials and product builds
  • Manage account receivables issues by close coordination with customers and Company personnel
  • Manage / update customer and Company internal system requirements (e.g. supplier profiles, price breakdowns, etc.)
  • Review customer contracts/purchase orders for accuracy and submit for entry into ERP system
  • Coordinate customer owned tooling activities both internally and with customer.
  • Respond to customer capacity inquiries and/or coordinate review with internal team
  • Interface with global counterparts to facilitate a global sales and engineering environment within Company
  • Support Continuous Improvement program to increase productivity through various lean manufacturing techniques
  • Understands and implements the health, safety, and environmental policies, and integrates health, safety, and environmental considerations into daily work activities
  • Assist with other responsibilities and duties as required, fostering a dynamic atmosphere
  • Ability to drive upwards of 500 miles in a day to visit either Company or customer locations
  • Ability to operate underneath a vehicle for 4-6 hours of time at a vehicle articulation study
  • Ability to sit looking at a computer screen upwards of 8 hours per day

Requirements

  • 5-10 years’ experience with automotive account management
  • Strong technical background (BSME, or equivalent technical degree preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Comfortable with working independently with periodic direction
  • Customer-focused mentality
  • Team-based approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, as well as confident leadership skills
  • Must be able to travel internationally, on occasion
