Job Description

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

This position is with 400+ bed hospital located a little over an hour east of the city.

Currently this facility is in need of a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Internal Medicine. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for helping to ensure all clinical functions of the Pharmacy Department are carried out and assist with the education of staff to enhance pharmaceutical services. This Clinical position requires skills and experience in providing educational opportunities to patients as well as peers.


  • Establish and develop clinical pharmacy services in medical/surgical unit
  • Responsible for working with nurses, physicians, care managers, respiratory therapist as a part of a multidisciplinary patient care team
  • Provide daily (M-F) patient profile review to assess, monitor and recommend appropriate drug therapy.
  • Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students
  • Serve as a resource for pharmacist advancing their clinical skills
  • Provide education to other pharmacists, nurses, and other clinical staff
  • Participate in planning and implementing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives for assigned units
  • Develop protocols, guidelines and other evidence based pathways to promote the safe and cost-effective use of medications
  • Participate in medical staff committee meetings, P&T meetings, and various other hospital committees


  • Graduate of accredited College of Pharmacy and licensed by Texas State Board of Pharmacy with Hospital experience and ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency.
  • Preferred but not required: PGY2 Internal Medicine residency or experience as a clinical specialist or BCPS (Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy Specialist)
