Manager of Marketing Communications - Digital

Location: Des Plaines, IL

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: VP of Marketing

Scope:

Responsible for managing the online presence for the company. Supports and manages the ongoing development and execution of the company’s global electronic marketing strategies. The ideal candidate will have diverse experience in digital communications and direct-response marketing, have managed a small team of direct reports, and have a track record of successfully managing external agencies and vendors. Specifics include integrated online marketing campaigns, analytics, project management; content development such as copywriting, proofing and editing; leverage the creative content development process.

Basic skills and experience requirements:

This position requires a combination of creativity with clear understanding of actions to meet business objectives. Must have ability to operate with an ethic of entrepreneurship within a culture of discipline to support development and adherence to standard work.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, web design, or related business administration from an accredited educational institution
  • Minimum six years’ experience in marketing, web development, advertising, business administration, or related field
  • Experience in a direct-response, e-commerce environment with solid grasp of online marketing optimization techniques, and respective web traffic analytics
  • SEM (PPC, SEO) experience, social media management experience a plus
  • HTML, CSS, UX understanding, and experience with CMS, strict coding ability not required; marketing automation experience a plus
  • Business acumen – possess insight to larger business goals and objectives and understand how the role fits into overall strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – experience in creating, composing, writing, and editing materials for web
  • Experience in translating and communicating complex technical topics to execute the actions with easy-to-understand benefits.
  • Ability to drive priorities and manage multiple obligations; meet deadlines while under pressure; self-discipline
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently, and with limited direction, when necessary
  • Team player – work with cross-functional teams and be able to adjust to shifting priorities; positive “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Key duties include:

  • Direct our online media programs and manage our digital marketing agencies, including search engine marketing and digital advertising
  • Develop and maintain a digital marketing dashboard to report key metrics of site, program and campaign performance
  • Operate as a hands-on contributor as needed, with a focus on content development, copywriting, editing, and publishing new/revised materials
  • Ensure consistency between online marketing campaigns and overall marketing strategy
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and select appropriate new initiatives to drive growth
  • Online Marketing - Media:
    • Video – work with video professionals to create compelling content
    • Photography – support development digital assets
    • Web design – support textual and graphical elements
    • Social – provide strategic insight and execute tactical improvements
    • SEM – assist in the development and on-going performance of PPC and SEO campaigns
    • Email campaigns, articles, blog posts
  • Lead a team of 3-5 direct reports, providing ongoing oversight and active mentorship and taking responsibility for their career development
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties in support of sales, office and marketing-related objectives
