Quality Manager

Job Purpose:

The Quality Assurance Manager leads the quality function to develop and administer the quality management system to support the manufacture of company products to maximize company revenue and profitability.

Description of essential duties:

Develop and administer the company quality management system. Develop corresponding quality assurance procedures by identifying critical control points and preventive measures, establishing critical limits, monitoring quality techniques, applying corrective actions, and verifying quality related procedures.

Achieves quality assurance operating objectives by developing and performing related training, implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards, identifying and resolving problems, completing quality audits, determining quality system improvements, monitoring key performance indicators for production processes, and implementing required changes.

Resolve external quality issues, evaluating and managing customer returned product, and implementing corrective actions, as required.

Resolve internal quality issues, supplying required missing information and addressing production issues from a quality assurance improvement perspective.

Provide quality assurance services relating to new product development. Address related planning, product development, process design, and product verification from a quality assurance improvement perspective.


Perform blueprint reading and interpretation.

Provide gauge development and design.

Provide for verification and certification prior to product shipment to customers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises quality and inspection staff. Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Quality Assurance or Business Administration. It is desirable for the incumbent to have attained additional education/certification relating to quality, such as the attainment of CQM (Certified Quality Manager) status or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Requires 3 to 5 years experience in quality assurance techniques.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employees, management, customers, and vendors concerning quality issues.
  • Requires knowledge of and ability to apply quality control related statistical techniques.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer and word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and Macola software. Requires the ability to use a variety of quality assurance related equipment and tools such as a calipers, micrometer, and various gauges.
  • Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard, calculator, telephone, and facsimile machine.
