Product Design Engineer


Performs design functions to develop new or redesign existing company products, including custom designs for each value stream. Under broad direction, works from requirements or instructions to design and develop complex new components or redesign existing components to improve company products. Determines and establishes specifications through engineering calculations and layouts. Oversees the assembly and tests of engineering prototypes. Own MUV (Material Usage Variance) projects assigned.




  • Research and Development: Prepares R & D requests and justifications. Responsible for R & D of new product lines.
  • Product Redesign: Works with marketing to develop specifications for new or redesigned products including innovation, chemical compatibility, ergonomics, look and feel, etc.
  • Product Planning Management: Oversees preparations of drawings, procedures, sketches, Etc., necessary for the development of new products or redesign of existing products.
  • Document Management: Ability to write and edit technical instructions.
  • Continuous Development: Conducts a continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures for new products to enhance and improve existing products with the following considerations: Chemical compatibility, FM and UL requirements, and manufacturing processes; i.e. fabrication, welding, powder coat, etc.
  • Engineering Inventory Management: Responsible for the care of a broad variety of materials and experimental products.
  • Marketing Support: Assists Marketing Department in Sales presentations, catalogs, and general advertising literature. 



  • A minimum of five to eight years of Manufacturing and related Engineering experience required in various Manufacturing Engineering functions in the sheet metal/metal working industry to acquire sufficient background and technique in the fabrication area to assume responsibilities.
  • College graduate with degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering discipline required. Courses in Production and Process Engineering are a plus.
