Job Description

Controller

The Controller will assist and support the CFO in the achievement of the Company’s goals and the maintenance of adequate internal controls over all areas of accounting. A successful candidate will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to ensure timely and accurate distribution of monthly and annual financial data in accordance with US GAAP, as well as issuance of relevant business KPIs to help guide the business.

 

Critical to success will be involvement in the development of our future state ERP system and providing the necessary tools and reports across all functions of the company to support decision-making throughout the business, as well as providing automated solutions to manual processes. Experience at a high growth startup, carve out company, and/or manufacturing strongly preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned:

 

  • Accounting and Reporting Leadership:
    • Provide day-to-day accounting guidance to executive leadership and operating teams across the organization
    • Support the hiring, training, and managing of the accounting organization (team of approx. 10)
    • Lead the monthly and quarterly closing process, financial reporting, perform/oversee month-end journals and associated account reconciliations
    • Deliver accounting and financial reporting requirements consistent with a private equity-backed company with multiple debt facilities (Senior facility and mezzanine debt)
  • Budgeting and Analysis:
    • Assist in leadership of annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
    • Assist the CFO in evaluating financial aspects of potential M&A activity
  • Treasury Management
    • Establish and maintain bank accounts, credit cards and other cash flow or liquidity aspects of the business in a leveraged environment
    • Daily cash management and availability reporting to factor
    • Monitor and forecast cash flow activity through proactive analyses
    • Publish and help drive daily cash flow via net working capital metrics, capex planning and tax activity
  • Manage Controls and Processes
    • Develop, implement and manage best practices for all accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to provide ongoing financial reporting integrity and risk mitigation
    • Shared oversight with Materials team of on-hand inventory and ongoing cycle counts.
    • Manage annual reporting and audit process with 3rd party audit firm
    • Leveraging 3rd party firm tax compliance support, manage ongoing compliance and tax filing requirements

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Candidates will have a proven track record of leadership running the accounting department of a middle-market company. Experience with private equity and / or distribution is a distinct advantage. In a young company with limited bureaucracy and established protocol, candidates will have bias for action and results with a hands-on approach to creating best practices where formal procedures are not fully developed.

 

  • Minimum required experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or Accounting or the completion of a Master’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position
  • Comprehensive understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Active CPA license
  • Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of financial data and ability to analyze/present reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership updated on the company’s financial status
  • Proven ability to implement, drive, improve and lead corporate accounting processes and procedures
  • Proven experience designing, creating or implementing financial systems
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials while managing competing priorities within tight deadlines; participate in and facilitate group meetings; ability to work under pressure while maintaining perspective on end result
  • Proficient with technology; knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Building high performance teams and cultures with strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Experience working with a private equity investor preferred
