Director of Materials Management

 

Summary

 

This Director of Materials Management will be responsible for implementation and management of a corporate-wide materials, warehousing and logistics strategy, while reducing service/construction/general business expenses by effective movement of direct/indirect materials, supplies, and services through the supply chain. In this capacity, you will interact effectively with senior managers in all functions of the organization. You will have the opportunity to have a significant impact on the growth and success of the organization, while improving customer and employee satisfaction.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Demonstrate senior level leadership and influencing skills, analytical ability, change management, and technical skills related to materials management in a large service organization.
  • Ability to partner with various departments to generate optimal performance in key areas of people, planning, quality controls, service, and cost controls consistent with measurable objectives is paramount to the successful growth of the company.
  • Drive objectives by contributing materials management information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining materials management system improvements; implementing change.
  • Meet materials management financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage inventory control parameters driven by the working with department and Area Managers forecasting and resulting in materials requirements, lead-times, operational constraints, working capital guidelines, and operational performance objectives.
  • Manage company assets to achieve such key performance indicators as: On Time Delivery, Material Planning (S&OP, Min/Max, etc.), Improve Inventory Turns/Reduce Inventory Aging, RMA and Write Off reduction, Freight Expense reduction, and reduction of high priced spot buys through development and leadership of diverse material and warehousing strategies including supplier managed inventory management techniques (i.e. 3PL’s/Depots).
  • Assist in managing supplier relationships and performance through formal supplier quality processes/policies.
  • Oversee the streamlining of process flows across the supply chain continuum.
  • Provide guidance on methodologies to optimize outcomes from process flows.
  • Lead selection, design and implementation of technology-focused solutions that will drive supply savings and operational efficiencies at the enterprise level, while utilizing LEAN methodologies and Change Management principles to drive adoption through acquisition-based growth.
  • Manage inventory by determining and maintaining optimum inventory and cost levels.
  • Ensure that all reporting systems and procedures are executed and effective.
  • Participate in budgeting processes and manage to these budgeted levels.
  • Obtain excellent cost results, as measured by labor variance, overtime, waste, downtime, budget variance analysis, and other formal and informal feedback mechanisms, using existing methods, procedures, and systems.
  • Establish and enforce standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Provide management control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends. 

Requirements

 

  • Must have a proven ability to implement a comprehensive corporate-wide materials management program in a field-based service organization
  • Ability to leverage corporate buying power and identify/onboard successful corporate partners, a record of implementing cost reduction initiatives that result in bottom line savings, and the ability to provide effective leadership while building a teamwork environment.
  • Business Operations and Materials Management experience for commercial services and repair industries
  • Bachelor’s Degree, at least 10 years of experience, 5 years or more in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success directing supplier selection activities including RFP’s, legal agreements, performance monitoring, and other aspects of supplier/materials management
  • Strong analytical and decision-making principles
  • Ability to manage complex transactions involving suppliers, customers and all levels of management
  • Financial management applies tools and processes to successfully manage to budget.
  • Proven ability in managing inventory budgets, understanding Working Capital
  • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments while meeting deadlines & demanding quality execution
  • Organizational policies, procedures and systems.
  • Possess knowledge relative to basic accounting principles and practices, inventory control theory and methods
  • Commercial Refrigeration and HVAC services and/or construction experience is a plus
  • Financial experience managing a large P&L a plus
