Job Description

Chief of Staff

This position is with a private equity megafund backed biotech startup. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the CEO and C-Suite on special assignments and projects that are related to the enhancement of business operations, support of strategic initiatives, lead M&A activity and capability building. The COS will act as an ambassador for the CEO and provide leverage for the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Management and execution strategic process/operational initiatives as developed in conjunction senior team
  • Managing everyday operational issues/challenges at the direction of the CEO
  • Driving operational enhancements as directed by CEO. Partner with the team to drive operational improvements that contribute to a positive employee experience
  • Identify potential acquisition targets through a variety of means including interfacing with operational personnel, conducting database searches, attending conferences and working with external parties
  • Perform basic research on potential acquisition targets
  • Engage in discussions with potential acquisition targets
  • Actively manage the pipeline of acquisition opportunities and provide regular process updates
  • Work with business units and external advisors and consultants to evaluate and conduct complex financial and risk analyses of acquisition opportunities
  • Help facilitate the integration of the acquisitions, including in many cases, transitions of senior leadership

Requirements

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with acute attention to detail, accuracy and accountability balanced with sound business judgment.
  • Strong full life cycle M&A/corporate development experience within the biotech industry (or an equivalent level of experience at an investment bank and/or private equity firm) with preference for involvement in acquisitions of small to medium-sized companies
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner to managers and executives
  • Great partner to CEO and entire management team
  • Appropriate expertise in financial modeling and written presentations including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Extensive experience across consulting and operational roles
  • Experiences involving acquisitions, sale processes and international operations
  • Experience and ability to model and synthesize complex financial analysis, operational, and KPI data into concise presentations and decision framework
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred
