Director - Imaging

I am working with a growing software organization that is seeking a Director of Imaging to help them improve their go to market strategy and to manage the growing team. This group is focused on improvement of the photo documentation and digitization of items. This person needs to be a forward thinking leader.

The Director - Imaging provides expertise in the areas of digital capture hardware and software, metadata, digital asset management, and digitization techniques and workflows. This position ensures that all imaging workflows are functioning optimally and promotes consistency in imaging production and workflow schemes, through a data-driven approach to production, quality and performance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, focus, leadership and direction for innovation of imaging practices with the Company
  • Manage an efficient and effective department through strategic planning, assessment, reporting, and optimal use of time, space, supplies, and budget
  • Optimize, develop, and oversee digitization workflows throughout the department; develop department standards and document them
  • Design workflows to maximize throughput for optimal margin performance and deliver on KPI objectives
  • Follow technical standards and best practices for adhering to standards; familiar with current and emerging standards and technologies
  • Utilize off-the-shelf and/or custom built software/technology to automate production and Quality Control/Assurance processes
  • Develop custom automation to drive up market advantage and drive down per unit costs
  • Schedule jobs/projects based on company and department priorities in collaboration with Sales and other production operating units
  • Create and maintain KPIs to measure performance against standards and against plan; review KPIs with senior management and advise on performance variances from expectation
  • Partner with COO/VP/Accounting to create reporting requirements and data capture/management programs
  • Develop new competencies among staff and expand institutional knowledge of current and emerging best practices, tools, strategies, and standards.
  • Key player in ERP evaluation, selection and implementation.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; can substitute experience for degree
  • Five to ten years’ management experience, including progressively responsible leadership experience resulting in outstanding leadership capabilities
  • Experience working in a production environment
  • A track record of building effective partnerships and sustaining relationships in a collaborative, complex environment comprising multiple and diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in managing complex, time-sensitive projects, evaluating workflows, and successfully designing or enhancing production-oriented work processes
  • Demonstrated expertise in configuring, operating, and maintaining the full range of digital capture equipment and software
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical imaging
  • Demonstrated expertise with post-production, color management, and profiling software applications
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems affecting production
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical issues and processes to nontechnical audiences
