Quality Assurance Lead Auditor-Plastics

The Quality Assurance Lead Auditor is an essential part of the quality team. While the Quality Control team specifically monitors production line quality, Quality Assurance monitors Company quality in general. The QA Lead Auditor is a plant-specific position; this employee will be responsible for assuring quality compliance for products in the plant to which they are assigned. Main duties include inspecting received and shippable goods; investigating both internal & external product complaints; and providing information to the quality team about how well company procedures are followed. Duties may include supervision of QA Auditors or temporary employees, depending on the volume of work required for individual plants.


Using the provided sampling plan, samples and inspects incoming goods (raw materials, imports, company transfers), shippable product, and reworked product, reporting results and entering rejections into the computer

Assists in the investigation of customer complaints

Using the provided audit plan, investigates Company procedures to see if they are being followed

Reports completion of daily activities and findings to the QA Manager

Participates in regular video conference meetings with the Quality group

Depending on plant needs, trains, schedules and supervises employees who perform the tasks noted above, using the training documentation and priority list provided by the Quality Manager


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three years quality experience
  • Minimum one year plastics manufacturing experience, injection molding preferred
  • Minimum two years auditing experience (i.e. ISO 9001)
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience
  • Product specifications
  • General quality terms such as:
  • Quarantine, nonconformance, sample size, contamination, defect, lot sampling, dimension, allowable variation
  • Plastics quality terms such as:
  • Cure, warp, bubble, burn, weld, flash, gate, short shot, condensation, streak, scar, emboss, string
  • Quality Management System terms such as:
  • Compliance, noncompliance, audit plan, implementation, effectiveness, corrective action, preventative action, SOP, procedure, work instruction, GMP
  • Use of calipers, micrometers, weight scales
  • Computer data entry
  • Basic computer literacy (logging on & off, finding folders through network paths, email, scanning, printing, uploading/downloading/editing/attaching photos)
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Excel (familiar with functions in the toolbar and top ribbon, particularly inserting charts and entering formulas)
  • Understand and perform intermediate math, using Microsoft Excel to find percentage, average, median, quartile, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and range values
  • Follow verbal and written English instructions
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written
  • Determine if product falls within specification
  • Exhibit courteous and respectful demeanor towards all company personnel in words and actions
  • Exhibit a cooperative, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Build teamwork and resolve conflicts
  • Work independently, with minimal supervision
