Senior Planner   Department: Materials   Immediate Supervisor: Supply Chain Manager   Positions Managed: None   FLSA Designation: Exempt   Unit / Grade Level: SE 4 Position Summary:   Responsible for all of the production planning at the Chicago facility. Plan, schedule, and expedite production and warehouse scheduling based on sales forecasts and actual customer demand to ensure that products are made and shipped according to the company’s customer service levels and inventory targets. Assists the Supply Chain Manager with the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) processes and Inventory Control Management. Works to improve customer satisfaction, profitability, inventory turns, and working capital while monitoring all aspects of inventory control and ensuring proper production planning.   This position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager, as part of the company’s Global Supply Chain Team. Will also work closely with the Inventory Control Coordinator and Senior Buyer at the Chicago facility.   Essential Job Functions:  
  • Organize, formulate and prepare production master schedules to conform to customer specific requirements, forecasted demand, inventory targets and manufacturing capacities.
  • Create and coordinate detailed production schedules through the systematic release of work orders to the production department.
  • Monitor work orders in process to keep informed of manufacturing status and, when needed, initiate the necessary steps to maintain conformity with schedules.
  • Perform contract review by coordinating information to determine if the sales order requirements can be met.
  • Ensure modifications to Sales orders are filtered through the entire system.
  • Act as a liaison with Customer Service, production, engineering, and others on matters pertaining to schedules, production, methods, materials and design to resolve day-to-day problems and improve systematic methods.
  • Participates in the SIOP process as requested to provide optimum customer service and working capital levels.
  • Collaborates with other departments in the company to ensure that the appropriate data is available and accurate to be reviewed at the SIOP meetings.
  • Works closely with the Production Manager and Warehouse Manager to ensure teamwork and collaboration across departments to ensure the customer orders and deadlines are met on-time.
  • Works closely with the Supply Chain Manager and the procurement team to analyze supply and demand issues to facilitate resolution throughout the supply chain.
  • Shares best practice methods, processes and ideas across the company to drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the business.
  • Assists with Physical Inventory.
  • Oversees and ensures proper production control planning while providing total customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains key performance indicators that relate to the inventory planning and scheduling functions.
  • Works with inventory control to oversee the storage of purchased parts and finished goods.
  • Ensures the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management system and procedures are followed in connection with all inventory and planning functions.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years of experience in Production Scheduling/Planning/Inventory Management.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of mainframe operations.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and display a high level of maturity and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across various divisions and coordinate changing priorities.
  • Experience in ISO 9001 quality management system or equivalent preferred.
