Automation Controls Programming Engineer

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree with 5+ years prior experience in PLC and HMI programming
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation hardware and software products including PLCs, HMIs, motion control, VFDs, industrial sensors, etc.
  • Familiarity with PC programming software such as Visual Basic, .Microsoft.Net, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • A current driver license and a clean driving record with the ability to be covered under company auto insurance.
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding shop and equipment safety, as time will be spent on the shop floor.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to quickly understand complex applications
  • Ability to analyze written specifications, drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to plan, layout, and develop software.
  • Confer with engineers, technicians, or others to resolve logic problems.
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and international.
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting automation systems.
  • Understanding of commonly used industrial communications hardware including Ethernet IP, Devicenet, RS-232, etc.
  • Understanding of ladder logic, structured test, function block, etc. pertaining to Rockwell Studio 5000.
  • Understanding of Studio 5000 motion commands to include basic axis movement, axis enabling and homing to electronic gearing, camming, and multi axis coordinated movements.
  • Understanding of mechatronics and mechanical concepts such as gearing, pulleys, ballscrews, rack and pinion, belt drives, crank shafts etc.

General Duties

  • Develop industrial automation programming projects from start to finish. This includes creation and maintenance of all software for a given project, PLC and HMI programming, and field service commissioning. Program electrical control systems for automated industrial machinery.
  • Program industrial safety applications to meet contemporary standards.
  • Responsible for software integration of PLC, HMI, servos, robots, vision, pneumatics, etc
  • Professionally communicate with customers both verbally and in writing concerning project status, program needs and reports.
  • Work with vendors to provide the best solutions for assigned applications.
  • Create and maintain project documents.
  • Travel to customers site for field support and commissioning. This can include international travel.
