Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:
Purchase goods and services at the most beneficial terms for the organization. Qualifies suppliers,
evaluates quotes/bids and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Tracks
purchases, monitors supplier quality and maintains a database of supplier information.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
• Adhere to laser, general manufacturing, and facility safety requirements.
• Negotiate contracts and orders with suppliers regarding costs and terms which are
beneficial to the organization.
• Works with Quality to prepare and conduct supplier evaluations, qualifications, and audits.
• Implement supplier corrective action and continuous performance improvement plans.
• Continuously reduce costs of goods and services through value engineering with suppliers.
• Ensure that supply chain meets target costs & lead times.
• Source, qualify, and assist in the development of new suppliers.
• Work with the organization’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Material
Requirements Planning (MRP) system to material planning and reporting.
• Expedite materials and services as they pertain to the needs of the organization.
• Work with the operations team to create forecasts, build plans, spare part forecasts, and
inventory plans
• Manage the organizations complete supply chain.
• Breakdown build and spare parts plans into material schedules and place orders consistent
with supplier lead-times.
• Support demands for production, engineering, and product development.
• Management of the Request for Quote (RFQ) processes.
• Order confirmations and package tracking
• Return Material Authorization (RMA) submission and tracking.
• Weekly reporting – PO status report, situation report, shortage report, etc.
• Support and resolve employee questions pertaining to purchasing.
• Interfaces with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Facilities, Building Management,
Housekeeping services and other sites as necessary.
• Collaborate on duties including, but not limited to; preparation of presentations, errands
related to purchasing, coordinating contractors for facility maintenance, shipping/receiving
assistance, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Experience working in optomechanical, electronics, and/or mechanical production
environments
• Knowledge in supply chain management, purchasing, logistics and supplier qualification
processes.
• Effective supplier management skills
• Knowledge of duty and tax rules and regulations

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
• This is a technical buying position; the candidate must have experience working in a
manufacturing environment.
• 2 - year technical diploma/degree with 4 years of experience,
Or
• 2- years of related military training and 4 years of experience,
Or
• 6 plus years of on-the-job training and experience
• Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) systems, preferably Navision or Infor LN
• Awareness of inventory items, especially high value items that may have long lead
times
• Must be able to interact with individuals at all levels of an organization, as well as
potential and current suppliers and customers.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and
work well under pressure.

Desirable
• Technical B.S. degree a plus
• Experience in procurement and planning of optical, mechanical, and electronic
products
• Experience in Metrology and/or LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging)

Kaizen, and 5S tools and techniques, are constantly applied to obtain quality and
productivity improvements and to reduce all costs
• Liaise with other departments in a timely manner to ensure a smooth process is in place
• Actively work on solutions for faults that are found
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized area up to the standard required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
5%-10% domestic and/or international travel
Working inside static controlled or other controlled areas
