Controller

This position is with a newly acquired, private equity backed, residential and commercial field services platform. The Controller will lead the financial and administrative management of the growing business. This individual will own the entire Accounting and Finance function, reporting to the CFO.

Job Responsibilities:

Oversee all financial operations, including but not limited to accounting, reporting, planning and analysis, budgeting, cash flow management, treasury operations, insurance matters, payroll administration, audit processes, tax compliance, and regulatory adherence.
Develop and deliver weekly and monthly financial reports, conducting comparisons against previous periods and budgets, along with periodic reforecasting. Present operational key performance indicators (KPIs) and curate finance-related content for monthly board meetings.
Manage external partnerships pertaining to financial and administrative affairs, such as relationships with financial advisors, benefits providers, and tax authorities.
Optimize Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes to enhance cash flow management.
Conduct profitability analyses to assess profit margins across various parameters such as projects, clients, and sales channels, thereby guiding strategic decision-making.
Provide financial insights to support pricing strategies and quote management.
Lead and mentor a team of five accounting and office professionals, adopting a hands-on approach (player-coach role) while also planning for team expansion as the business grows.
Oversee the annual financial audit conducted by external accounting firms and manage reporting obligations to third-party lenders as necessary.
Contribute to the annual strategic planning and budgeting processes, and facilitate the integration of financial reporting from acquired entities into the existing platform.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in relevant roles.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification; CPA certification preferred but not mandatory.
Prior experience within a private equity-backed portfolio company is desirable.
Familiarity with route-based or technician-driven operational environments is advantageous.
Proficiency in accounting principles, particularly compliance with GAAP standards, is essential.
Strong financial acumen, including expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
Advanced Excel skills are required.

Responsibilities

Manage all the financial functions including accounting, reporting, planning and analysis, budgeting, cash cycle, treasury, insurance, payroll, audit, tax, and compliance.
Prepare weekly and monthly financial reporting, comparisons to prior year and budget, periodic reforecasting, operational KPI’s, and prepare finance content for monthly board presentations.
Manage external relationships related to finance and administration of the business including financial advisors, benefits, tax, etc.
Manage optimization of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
Perform profitability analysis to determine profit margins by job, customer, and sales channel to inform business decisions.
Provide financial support for quotes and price management
Manage and train a team of five existing accounting / office professionals to support the growing business platform. Will need to be hands on (player-coach role). There is an opportunity to further build the team as the business scales.
Manage annual financial audit process by outside accounting firm
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to third party lenders (likely 2H of 2024)
Support team in annual strategic planning and budgeting process
Support the integration of add-on acquisition financial reporting to the platform

Qualifications

7 years plus of work experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, CPA preferred but not required
Prior experience in a private equity-backed portfolio company preferred
Prior experience in a route-based and/or technician-driven operating environment preferred
Technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of accounting practices, particularly as it relates to ensuring compliance with GAAP
Financial knowledge and understanding of key financial measures and accounting methods with an emphasis on financial analysis, accurate forecasting, budgeting
Proven Excel skills required
